How does the label of genius impact society's evaluation of intelligence?

From Roald Dahl’s Matilda to the MacArthur “Genius” Grant, the term genius is ubiquitous. Studying the lives of so-called geniuses can lead to insights into their development, but what factors of their “genius” were given by nature and which were built by nurture? And furthermore, could declaring genius create inequitable and dangerous cults of worship?
