The Performing Arts at Thacher allow for vibrant self-expression of many kinds. Students explore acting, singing, instrumental music and electronic music, and the nascent performer as well as the experienced can find challenges in the program. The Thacher Chorus and Chamber Singers receive classroom instruction during the academic week and perform throughout the year at school Assemblies and at formal concerts both on and off campus, including some adjudicated festivals. Acting classes at Thacher stage short productions throughout the year.
The Arts Department also supports the dance and drama programs. Dance is offered as an afternoon activity in the fall, and The Thacher Masquers stage two large-scale theatrical productions during the year, a fall drama and a winter musical. In cooperation with the Committee on Lectures and Concerts, the Arts department brings professional performing arts groups of all kinds to campus throughout the year.
A new Performing Arts Center provides a vanguard facility for School performances, rehearsals, and classes. An auditorium provides an ample stage, an orchestra pit, and seating for 450. Backstage facilities include large music and dance rehearsal spaces, and practice and dressing rooms.
